Simply Mommy’s Vegetarian Tortilla’s Flour/Corn


Tortilla

Homemade flour tortilla’s

2 cups of All purpose flour/ wheat if you prefer( For Corn tortilla’s just this way except Using NO OIL and using  2 cups dry masa harina  and reducing water to 1 1/4 cups)

1/4 teaspoon Cumin

1 teaspoon Salt

1/4 cup of Avocado oil (but you can use any vegi based oil, just avocado is yummy)

1/2 cup lukewarm water

Grab you a mixing bowl add all dry ingredients, add oil, sift with a fork until mixture is grainy, add water and knead, into balls it Should yield around 8 balls.

I use a tortilla press, I know lazy.. but you can press flat with a rolling pin and use a small round plate and score with a knife if you don’t have a press.

Cook in hot ungreased skillet, cook 35 seconds on one side( chances are at 35 sec. they will fluff up and look like they could float but if not flip them anyway( if they crack upon cooking.. you did something wrong. they will be dry and not very tasty), flip and repeat.

Calories are roughly estimated at around 185 calories per serving- 1 serving 1 tortilla-This recipe yields 8 servings.

I been using this for like 16 years. Lucia  a friend of mine she  came from Guatemala in 1998, showed me how to cook these and I put my own little twist on them. ( she uses her hands to flatten out!! They are perfection. She also uses fat drippings… instead of oil…  😦 )
